The Apple Power Macintosh G4/400 (AGP Graphics), based on the Sawtooth architecture, features a 400 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processor with the AltiVec 'Velocity Engine' vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache. It shipped configured with 64 MB or 128 MB of RAM, a 10 GB or 20 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, a 5X DVD-ROM drive, and either a 2X AGP ATI Rage 128 or Rage 128 Pro graphics card with 16 MB of SDRAM. AirPort (802.11b) was available by custom configuration.
There are three modestly different versions of this model. The original configuration shipped from October 13, 1999 to December 2, 1999 with 128 MB of RAM, a 20 GB hard drive, and an ATI Rage 128 graphics card and was assigned model number M7824LL/A (EMC 1810). M7824LL/B (EMC 1843) shipped from December 2, 1999 to February 16, 2000 with the same configuration as its predecessor except it had an ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card -- which adds a DVI port and 1920x1200 support. The last configuration, M7641LL/A, shipped from February 16, 2000 to July 19, 2000, and had no Zip drive, less memory and a smaller hard drive -- 64 MB of RAM and a 10 GB drive (it still had the ATI Rage 128 Pro graphics card) -- but sold for less (US$1599). All Power Macintosh G4/400 (AGP Graphics) configurations use a case design effectively the same as that introduced with the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) -- complete with a fold down door on the side that makes upgrading very easy -- but is clad in a more conservative 'graphite' and white color scheme. Custom configurations also were available.
